Prayer: Β Lord of Life, you were truly dead. Just as it is written it has happened. The Good Shepherd has given his life for his sheep. Help us to believe the mystery of your death, even though such a miracle is beyond our comprehension. We are baffled at the notion that God could die. How could death have power over the one who has all power? Our minds cannot provide an answer. Yet we know these things did indeed come to pass. Your side was pierced with the spear, and there flowed forth water and blood. You were so clearly dead to those that were witness that there was no need to break your legs. This is a mystery. Our Lord and God dead on a cross! The Giver of life, the Maker of all things, fallen a victim to the great enemy of all life! Only in Your wisdom, O God, could such things come to pass. Only because there was no other way to bring about our rescue did such things come to pass. Can we ever, throughout the endless cycles of eternity, sufficiently thank and praise you for your wondrous salvation? Help us to thank You now, in this present life. Create in us a devotion that would cause us to give our whole lives in service to you. Create in us contrite hearts for our sin. Create and preserve in us a faith in Christ that is mighty and enduring.
